GET planting — that’s the advice from Oxford in Bloom judges Harry Robinson and Trish Stevens.

They were at Templars Square shopping centre in Cowley on Saturday to launch this year’s competition.

Last year there were 600 entries in the contest, which is open to residents, schools and businesses.

Organisers are hoping for a similar number again this year. Oxford in Bloom chairman Karen Roberts said: “Following a successful launch on Saturday it’s a good time for people to get planting and make their gardens as colourful as possible.

“The weather is fantastic at the moment so now is a great time to get your gardens looking their best.”

Categories include best kept small front garden, best kept large front garden, most beautiful hanging basket, most florally attractive window box and under-11 planter.

Judging starts on Monday, July 19, with the winners announced at a presentation evening on Thursday, September 16, at Roman Way Sports and Social Club.
