CHILDREN from France, Spain and Poland joined youngsters from a small Oxfordshire village for a special project.

Brize Norton Primary School has been working with schools in each of the four countries for the past year as part of a Comenius project funded by the British Council.

Over the course of the week, 27 children from France, four from Poland and four from Spain visited Brize Norton, staying with host families and joining pupils for a range of events.

That included sharing traditional games from each culture, a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, a picnic with team games and a climbing wall, and a range of activities from the different cultures, including cooking, dance, orienteering and singing.

Class teacher Gemma Perkins said: “They have been working together and learning different ways of communicating, picking up bits of the language along with traditional songs and dances.

“The children really enjoyed it and it has been fantastic.”

It had been planned for a contingent from Germany to join the festivities, but their flights were cancelled due to strike action by British Airways staff.
