Smoke alarms alerted a family in Didcot to a fire in their kitchen involving cooking equipment.
Two residents at the house in Queensway evacuated the home after the blaze broke out at 5.20pm yesterday.
Firefighters from Didcot put out the flames and made sure the fire did not spread to other rooms.
Incident commander Steve Wright, watch manager from Didcot fire station, said: “The working smoke alarms most certainly helped prevent the situation from worsening and allowed the residents time to vacate the building safely and call the fire service.”
