IN REPLY to local and national news of late, there seems to be a problem with taxes.

The new Government says it must raise taxes to fill the holes.

One idea is to put more taxes on the poor motorists. This in itself is not a solution many accept.

A good deal of my fellow motorcycle riders have complained, as have HGV drivers and other vehicle users.

My proposal is to put an extra tax on all fuels – of, say, five pence – and freeze vehicle tax. This would put a tax on the amount you use your vehicle.

This could then make car pools and public transport more attractive and cut congestion.

Other road users include pushbikers. Most are responsible and have serviceable bikes. However, as a travelling salesman, I know some can be a hazard. Some are not safe or do not know the rules of the road.

If you have an accident with a pushbike then the motor vehicle driver is automatically in the wrong, but many of these types of accident are caused by a lack of road sense and faulty equipment.

If there was a similar system (as with road vehicles) to MoT, insure and pay tax on pushbikes, then a lot of the problems might be helped.
