A man posing as a power company worker stole £800 after tricking his way into a home in Haddenham.
The man, in his late 40s, approached the resident of a property in Willis Road, Haddenham at 10.50am yesterday and said he was working for the electricity board and needed to read the meter.
After the offender left, the victim discovered his wallet, containing credit cards, a driving licence and £800 cash had been taken from his cabinet.
The offender was a white man, 5ft 8in tall, stocky and was wearing a blue jacket, blue trousers and a peaked cap.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw a man matching the above description in the area around the time of the offence acting suspiciously or has any information to contact them.
Kama Wager, Thames Valley Police Crime Reduction advisor, said: “It is absolutely vital that members of the public always ask for identification and feel confident to check the identification presented at your door.
"If you weren’t expecting a caller, please check the identification thoroughly. Genuine employers of any company will be happy to wait outside while you take down their details and ring their company to check they are who they say they are.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Bruce Wilson at Aylesbury police station via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to the police, call the Crimestoppers chairty anonmously on 0800 555 111.
