Sir – The letter sent by Nuala Young (May 13) had unfair insinuations that the St Clements result was skewed against the Greens. It is obvious that the best candidate won on the day and this was the spirited and tree-loving gentleman councillor Graham Jones.
Unlike the Green councillors of St Clements he only rides a bicycle and does not swan around in a car.
The Greens also cut down a beautiful cherry tree in Princes Street to build a hideous extension which ruined the architectural character of the historic East Oxford Community centre. So much for their planning acumen. They upset a lot of the centre’s users by their actions and this has cost them votes.
Residents in Princes Street now have an ugly view of the Cowley Road traffic that had been previously screened by the lovely cherry blossoms.
The Lib Dem candidate was by far and away the best candidate and will certainly make an excellent councillor for the ward.
