PUPILS at Wheatley Primary School have been ‘spending a penny to save a penny’ for Christian Aid.
During Christian Aid week, children put a plastic water bottle in their bathrooms and put money in it every time they went to the toilet.
And to top off the week, all the pupils came to school in fancy dress on the theme of water. Sam Cherry is pictured, front, with his fellow pupils.
Headteacher Joan Morters said: “We had a washing machine, a shark, mermaids, surfers, pirates, and even Poseidon – and they looked great. People from Christian Aid came and talked to the children, telling them that some people have to walk five miles to get water before they can wash, cook and drink.”
Churches across the county have been collecting money for Christian Aid, which this year is raising awareness about sanitation issues in developing countries.
