I read Martin Roberts’ letter (Oxford Mail, May 13) about Evan Harris losing his seat and I had to laugh.
The guesswork about people not voting is total nonsense.
Let me make a few things clear: Although Evan Harris “was not afraid to tackle the really thorny ethical problems of today’s society”, he couldn’t see the wood for the trees.
Instead of taking on any ethical issues to appease the bobble hats and duffle coats, he should have worked for his constituents and helped them during his last term.
Dr Harris was the representative for Oxford West and Abingdon, but he forgot what he was there for.
I wrote to him a number of times over his two terms and although I received notification of receipt for my letter from the House of Commons, I did not receive a reply to my letters in his last term.
If you don’t do your job properly you get the boot – and this is what happened to Dr Harris, and all the moaning about a small margin will not change that fact.
I just hope Nicola Blackwood is a reader of the Oxford Mail and learns from the mistakes of her predecessor.
If Nicola looks after her constituents instead of trying to follow her own ideals she could have a long career in politics.
