There are nearly 2,000 streets in England where the average property costs more than £1m with some in Oxfordshire, a new report has revealed.

The county is in the top ten of unitary authority areas which have the highest number of streets reaching values of seven figures or more.

But research by website Zoopla.co.uk shows the vast majority of these are in London at 1,418, followed by Guildford at 47, Richmond at 44 and Leatherhead at 40.

In terms of unitary authority areas, Windsor and Maidenhead is the most expensive area outside of London, with the average home there costing £393,000, followed by South Gloucestershire at £367,000 and Surrey at £347,825.

West Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bath and North East Somerset join Oxfordshire in the top ten.

Kensington in London is the most expensive postcode area in the country, with the average home in W8 costing nearly £1.6m, nine per cent more than a year ago.

The area is also home to the country's most expensive street, Kensington Palace Gardens, with property prices there averaging £18m.

London accounts for nine of the top 10 most expensive postcodes, after property prices in the capital rebounded sharply during the past year.

Nick Leeming, commercial director of Zoopla.co.uk, said: "The past 12 months has seen house prices in the leading areas of the country rebound at a far faster rate than the average, contributing to a widening of the north/south divide."
