A GIANT metal robot created from scrap has been watching over visitors to a youth centre.
The 20ft tall Transformer towers over the teenagers who designed and built it at the Courtyard Youth Arts Centre in Launton Road, Bicester.
The model is called Carnage, and was made by young people from Bicester and Banbury.
It has been erected alongside other creations as part of Oxfordshire Artweeks, and can be seen by the public from Saturday until May 28.
About 20 youngsters used scrap metal and old car parts in the construction, and decorated the robot with stencils and spray paint. At night its eyes glow red.
The structure took two weeks to make.
Youth worker Matthew Todd praised young people for their talent. He said: “They designed and built the robot, which has been made from recycled items – including car parts such as wheels.
“It is the centrepiece for the Courtyard, and is very impressive. If people haven’t seen it, they should come along and have a look.”
Other work on display during Artweeks includes 3D and digital prints and photography.
The Courtyard is open from noon-4pm at weekends, noon-6pm on weekdays, and until 8pm on Thursdays.
