An Oxford band who have become one of the most popular new acts in the country will thank their fans by launching their first album in the intimate surroundings of a back street pool hall.
Stornoway, who formed in East Oxford four years ago, have gone from playing small local venues to touring the country, and playing at the Glastonbury Festival.
They have also appeared on TV on hit music show Later… with Jools Holland, alongside Sting, Norah Jones, Foo Fighters and rapper Jay-Z.
Now signed to cult record label 4AD, band members Dr Brian Briggs, Jon Ouin, Ollie Steadman and his brother Rob Steadman have vowed to reward local fans by playing a series of three shows at the A1 Pool Hall in Crown Street, off Cowley Road. The show comes as they release debut album Beachcomber’s Windowsill. The no-frills venue has no stage and holds just 100 people.
The shows run from tomorrow to Tuesday, and are expected to sell out quickly.
“We are doing this as a thank you to our loyal fans,” said drummer Rob, 18, who lives in Morrell Avenue.
“This is where we started and where we’ve got our strongest support.”
The band will play Glastonbury again next month.
