Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted as he walked home from a pub in Oxford.

The 21-year-old man was walking along Lime Walk in Headington when he was assaulted from behind by what is believed to be a group of about four men.

The man was punched in the face, knocking him to the floor, where his attackers have then kicked him in the face.

The assault happened at about 11.30pm on Monday, May 3, but details were only released today.

PC George Atkinson said: “The man was left shaken by what had happened to him and we would urge anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has any information about this incident, to contact us as soon as possible.

“Unfortunately, because it was dark and the fact that he was assaulted from behind, the man hasn’t got a good look at his attackers. However, it might be that someone has seen a group of four men in the area at the time, and we would like to hear from these people.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Atkinson via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
