Viewers in Oxfordshire are unlikely to get channels back until at least after 7pm.
A fire broke out at the Beckley mast, which transmits TV signal to around 410,000 homes, at around 3pm.
Work has been going on at the mast in preparation for the digital switchover.
Arqiva, which is carrying out the work, said nobody was injured in the fire and said it would not be allowed to even look at the site to see how to rectify the problem until after 7pm, when the fire services have left.
