The many thousands of people who volunteer their time across the UK already know how rewarding it feels. Not only putting something back into the community but also gaining valuable skills to add to your CV for reference by future employers.
Whether you are young, retired or unemployed, volunteering is a perfect way to engage with the community, make new friends and to feel your own skills and strengths are of benefit to others.
The decision to become a volunteer is often made by people who recognize they can make a difference at any stage of their lives if they are prepared to spare even the smallest amount of time and energy.
On Wednesday, June 2, Against Breast Cancer, a charity based in Abingdon is inviting local people to ‘Bring A Splash Of Pink Into Your Life’ – a lighthearted approach to the serious issue of attracting fresh supporters to the charity. The open evening is from 4pm to 7pm at the Four Pillars, Abingdon.
Against Breast Cancer is aiming to attract volunteers who can provide regular support, ad hoc help, or found a local Against Breast Cancer Action Group to fundraise for the charity. Many existing action groups have been founded by people whose friends and families have been touched by breast cancer. Instead of feeling powerless, they turn their energy towards finding a solution. They have achieved some incredible things including painting whole towns like Witney and Abingdon pink.
Bringing a Splash of Pink into your own life could be as simple as regularly volunteering your help at the charity’s HQ in Abingdon or assisting with external events the charity participates in.
Volunteers are essential if the charity is to continue to be able to do its vital work into immunology and biochemistry; gradually unlocking the key to the secondary spread of breast cancer in women and leading to the very real possibility of a vaccine for young women.
So why not think about putting some colour into your life? Take the first step by going to the open day and talking to the charity’s staff and volunteers to find out more about what they could offer you as well as what skills and experience you can offer Against Breast Cancer. Please go to www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk for more information and to register your interest.
