A team of four police officers is preparing to climb the three peaks in the Yorkshire Dales as the final stage of a two part mountaineering challenge to raise money for a children’s charity.
The first challenge, in which the officers climbed the staircase of Debenhams department store in Oxford to the height of Mount Everest raised £500 on the day.
Now, hoping to continue to raise money, police officers Laurence East, Will Wright, Richard Bell and Stuart Milne are preparing to climb Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (724m), with the added challenge of mountain biking between the peaks, a total distance of 50 miles.
The Oxford-based officers hope to raise money for Action Medical Research, a research charity which currently focus on tackling life-threatening pregnancy complications, protecting children from deadly infections and improving quality of life for children with disabilities.
Team member Laurence East said: “My niece was born prematurely at 31 weeks and having seen the life saving benefits of this research, our goal is to raise as much as possible. Will’s lad also spent two weeks in intensive care so this is a charity close to our hearts.”
