Oxfordshire’s last Prime Minister was Lord North, who served from 1770 to 1782.
Like Mr Cameron he was educated at Eton and Oxford.
He has been described as the man “who lost Britain’s American colonies” and his term was branded as a “disastrous” 12 years.
Much has changed in Oxfordshire between Lord North’s time and Mr Cameron’s.
But congestion in Oxford city centre would be familiar to both PMs — in 1771 Oxford’s North Gate, spanning Cornmarket, was torn down following an Act of Parliament to improve roads in the city.
The Radcliffe Infirmary was opened in 1770, and it closed three years before Mr Cameron took office.
