AN OXFORD United fan jetting in from Transylvania to watch the play-off final is confident the U’s can avoid a Wembley horror show.

Jez Allen is such a U’s nut that when he moved from Headington Quarry to Romania in 2006 he strapped his old seats from the Manor Ground to the roof of his car and drove them more than 1,500 miles to Dracula’s home town.

The relics of Oxford’s former ground were won at auction by his cousin Barry Kicks and took three days to transport to Eastern Europe on top of his Land Rover.

The seats from the Beech Road stand are now installed in the Lancaster Bomber bar he runs in Transylvania.

The former RAF reservist will fly out from Sibiu airport in southern Transylvania today, returning to Romania from Luton at 4am on Monday.

However, the 48-year-old expat believes the long journey will be worth it and has predicted another 3-0 victory for the U’s at Wembley.

He said: “I couldn’t miss this game.

“Obviously I was there for the Milk Cup Final and I wouldn’t miss this game for the world.

“I had some customers stuck here during the volcanic ash cloud and I had to drive them back to England and I would be quite happy to drive all the way back to see this game if my flight is cancelled.

“I’m hoping it won’t come to that though because it takes three days and I probably won’t get to England before kick-off.”

Mr Allen first watched the U’s as an eight-year-old in 1970 and now listens to every United game over the Internet after moving to Romania in 2006.

Before the match he will stay with his mother Joyce at her house in Quarry High Street before boarding the Oxford Tube to London with friends to watch the match.

He said: “I wasn’t in England for the last set of play-offs in 2007 and when I moved to Romania the whole talk was whether we’d even lose a game in the whole season.

“Now it’s ended up that we’re still in the Conference four years later.

“Just because we are taking more supporters than them doesn’t mean we’re going to win, but I’m cautiously optimistic.”
