A SPORTS ground which has been home to Witney teams for more than 35 years may be sold to fund improvements to the town’s leisure facilities.
The West Witney Sports Ground, home to the town’s sports and social club, could be replaced by a new facility on land next to the Witney Lakes Golf Resort.
The ground would then be sold to developers and the money used to fund sports provision across Witney as a whole.
In October, Witney Town Council, which owns the ground, commissioned a report into sports development for the town.
The consultancy that carried out the report, Sports Solutions GB, met the town’s sports clubs on Monday evening and is now preparing to puts its plans on show to the public.
Options include upgrading existing facilities at West Witney Sports Ground, upgrading and moving some of the facilities, and completely moving the ground to Witney Lakes and selling the current land to developers.
Sports Solutions GB’s managing director Chris Bevan said no decision would be made before full public consultation.
The plans will be on show at the Corn Exchange, in Market Square on Thursday, May 27, from 4pm to 8pm.
Site plans and designs will be presented at the exhibition, and residents will have the opportunity to ask about the project and see what the facilities are likely to look like.
They will also be invited to submit comments and suggestions.
Town council clerk Sharon Groth would not comment on the plans.
