Police are appealing for witnesses after 5,000 litres of diesel was stolen from a Thames Water site in Banbury.

It is believed the theft may have taken place over the May Bank Holiday weekend. However, it was not reported to police until Wednesday, May 5.

Thieves have forced their way into Thames Water pumping station site in Broughton Road and drained the fuel from out of a generator. The total value of the stolen fuel is estimated to be in the region of £2,500.

PC Wes Turner said: “The road this station is on is one of the busier routes and across the road from this is a lay-by regularly used by truckers and motorists as a rest stop.

"Have you been offered red diesel for sale? If so, then we would like to hear from you.

“I would also urge anyone who may have seen anything or any suspicious vehicles in the area over the Bank Holiday weekend, to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact PC Turner via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
