A DRUG dealer from Oxford who tried to expand his business by offering larger-than-usual £10 wraps of heroin has been jailed for five years.
Rushane Grant, 43, left, was caught during a covert police operation in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, a year ago in which he was targeted by an undercover officer.
At Warwick Crown Court, Judge Marten Coates said Grant’s case was worse than many dealers because he was not a user and in it purely for profit.
Grant, of Bluebell Court, Greater Leys, had admitted conspiring to supply heroin at an earlier hearing.
Matthew Brook, prosecuting, said that in May last year the officer met drug user Christopher Stockton who, believing he was a fellow addict, told him of a new dealer in town. Stockton, who has since been given a suspended prison sentence, said the dealer, known as Jay, was supplying heroin.
The officer arranged to meet Grant, who sold him a £10 wrap of heroin.
Timothy Banks, defending, said Grant came to this country from Jamica on a six-month visa in 2002, and had applied for indefinite leave to remain because he had a partner and two children.
On Wednesday, Judge Coates also said Grant should be deported on release.
