A STAR-STUDDED skating gala is being staged at Oxford ice rink to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Top UK ice skating stars and local skaters will perform at the rink in Oxpens Road on Saturday, May 22.

The event is being staged by the Oxford School of Skating, with the support of leisure operators Fusion, and the Oxford Figure and Free Ice Skating Club.

Sue Hands, event organiser and coach at the rink, said: “My mother Isobel died aged 60 from breast cancer 20 years ago, which came as a great shock. Other people at the rink also know people who have suffered breast cancer, so we wanted to do something to help.”

Skaters will include the world-renowned Russian pair skaters, Dmitry Sukarnov and Fiona Zaldua, and former World Professional Champion Martin Minshull, inset.

The event takes place from 6pm until 7.30pm.

Tickets are £8.50 for adults, £6.50 for children (under 15) and £26.50 for a family ticket (two adults and two children) and are available from the ice rink reception.
