CARTERTON residents have received awards for their hard work in the town.
Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Tim Stevenson presented the Exceptional Citizens’ Awards to four residents at a special reception in the town hall.
Mr Stevenson said: “It’s a very great privilege for me to be able to present these awards. I’m always delighted to be involved in anything which acknowledges great personal achievement.”
The recipients were nominated by fellow residents.
Michael Bulley, welfare officer for Carterton Royal British Legion, received the award in recognition of his many years of dedicated voluntary support for ex-servicemen and women through the RAF Association (RAFA) and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Michael Lowe was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the public life of the town.
Mr Lowe has supported Age Concern for many years and helped to establish Carterton Day Centre. He is still active in the Carterton Lions and continues to support the new Carterton Community Centre.
Wendy Morgan was given the award for her outstanding contribution to community life in the town through her work as voluntary editor and co-ordinator of the Carterton Community Magazine, a self-financing publication.
Lifeguard Peter Norgrove was recognised for teaching youngsters to swim, while supporting local charities and clubs. He is a member of the Carterton Lions and has helped at the Carterton Community Centre.
Town mayor Maxine Crossland said: “The town council introduced these awards in 2007 to recognise exceptional achievement by residents of Carterton.
“I’m delighted to announce that we have four very worthy recipients in 2010 to join the nine already awarded.”
