Sir, Further to Sally Servian's comments (Letters, June 23) about the discontinuing of the number 14 bus service, I work at the Churchill Hospital as a nurse starting at 8am for which the No. 14 bus served admirably as I live on Headley Way below the JR roundabout and, therefore, was able to travel from close to my home to close to my workplace. Now I have to take the No. 13 bus, change at St Clements to catch the No. 15 going up Morrell Avenue. I then disembark either in Old Road or Girdlestone Road to walk to my workplace at a distant part of the hospital complex from either of these bus stops.

This is almost twice the length and cost of my previous journey and I, and I am sure many other hospital staff who used the No 14 bus service, do not look forward to walking through these areas on dark winter mornings, or have been otherwise considerably inconvenienced. The alternative for me would be to travel to the Churchill by environmentally-unfriendly car and pay £6 per day to park as, living so locally, I am not entitled to have a hospital parking permit and for various reasons am unable to cycle. In the interests of safety and common sense I strongly urge the relevant bus companies and authorities to re-establish a proper bus service to link the John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals and Oxford Brookes University.
