NEIGHBOURS in Cowley alerted city election officials after more than 100 poll cards were left in communal areas at a block of flats.
Concerned residents at Lizmans Court raised the alarm after discovering their General Election polling cards in communal hallways.
Resident Stephen Ennis said: “We were quite shocked. There were about 10 cards in our block and I checked other blocks and it was the same.
“I think it’s really bad. It is an open invitation to fraud.”
Jeremy Thomas, returning officer at Oxford City Council said: “The elections office received a complaint on Saturday that poll cards had been left in the communal area of Lizmans Court.
“That should not have happened. It is in direct contravention of the written instructions given to each poll card deliverer and that particular instruction was repeated and emphasised in briefings that I gave to all the deliverers.”
He said the council would retrieve and redeliver the cards.
- A hustings for the Oxford East Constituency will be held tomorrow at St Michael At The Northgate, Cornmarket Street, at 12.30 pm. All six leading candidates will be in attendance.
