The family of a record label owner left in a coma after being shot accidentally by her son are at her bedside.

Jill Sinclair, of Checkendon, was said last night by ZTT Records to be in an "unchanged but stable" condition in hospital. Mother-of-four Ms Sinclair, 54, was shot on Sunday afternoon by her son Aaron, 22, who was home from university and playing with an air rifle in the garden of their manor house.

The pellet, apparently fired by Aaron during a target practice session, hit an artery in Ms Sinclair's neck.

A spokesman for ZTT Records said staff at the firm Ms Sinclair set up with her husband Trevor Horn in 1983 were "very upset" by what had happened, adding it was "complete accident, a real freak occurrence".

He said it is too early to tell if mother-of-four Ms Sinclair will suffer brain damage from the injury. The family did not wish to comment.

ZTT Records enjoyed success with bands such as Frankie Goes To Hollywood and The Art of Noise. In the 1990s, it became a successful dance label boasting names such as Seal and Adamski.
