Record producer Jill Sinclair is unconscious in hospital after a freak shooting incident at her weekend cottage in Oxfordshire.
She was shot in the neck by her 22-year old-son in the garden at the cottage in Checkendon as he was doing target practice with an air rifle.
Thames Valley Police are not involved in what a spokesman for her company, ZTT Records, described as "a freak accident".
He said: "It was a real freak occurrence that her son was shooting at some targets in the garden and wasn't aware that she was close by. She took a pellet in the neck."
She was rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading after the incident on Sunday evening. She is still unconscious there and it is not yet known whether she will suffer brain damage.
Ms Sinclair, 54, founded ZTT Records with her husband Trevor Horn 20 years ago and has had considerable success with 1980s bands like Frankie Goes to Hollywood and The Art of Noise.
The couple live in London.
