DAVID Slade produced a devastating opening spell to set Oxford on the way to a crushing seven-wicket win over High Wycombe in the Cockspur Cup group semi-final at Roman Way on Sunday.
The former Oxfordshire seamer took 3-24 from his nine overs, removing openers Mark Morgan, Matt Gitsham and the dangerous Jason Harrison to leave Wycombe 27-3 after they were put in to bat.
With Jack Brooks having Paul Sawyer caught behind by Todd Hutchinson, Wycombe plunged even deeper into trouble at 32-4.
Greg Pooley and Nick Robinson repaired some of the damage, taking Wycombe to 102.
After slumping to 103-7, Wycombe were then indebted to Johnny Hughes (40 no) and Nick Haynes (30) as they struggled to 184-9 off 45 overs.
Brothers Simon (60) and Stuart Hole (55) then shared an opening stand of 94 for Oxford.
Simon made 60 off 74 balls before being caught by Hughes off Chris Sketchley, while Stuart hit 55 off 50 deliveries before being snapped up by Haynes off Harrison.
After they departed, Stewart Laudat maintained the momentum until he was caught and bowled by Harrison.
And Adam Cook and Mendis saw Oxford home with 11.3 overs to spare.
Now Oxford are at home to Ealing in the Group 12 (South East 1) final on Sunday, July 2 four wins away from Lord's.
