Sir, Residents in North Summertown have just received a response from Oxfordshire County Council to their consultation concerning a residents' parking scheme for the area. The letter states: 'Following the responses received, an initial design has been created.' It goes on to describe the scheme.
Nowhere does the letter mention the result of the consultation, which was a majority against having a residents' parking scheme at all. Once again we see that so-called 'consultation' is meaningless, as the result is already determined, regardless of the views of the public. Quite disgracefully the letter misleads the public.
Will our county councillors now stand up for the wishes of their voters? We wait to see. We have now received a second consultation letter proposing that all residents' parking permits should be charged for. I should imagine that if the residents of North Summertown had known of this new plan there would have been an even bigger majority against having a residents' parking scheme.
