A pensioner was killed after he was struck by an articulated lorry as he walked alongside a dual carriageway on the outskirts of Oxford.
Police yesterday appealed for information after the death of the 77-year-old man, who was walking along the A420 between Cumnor and Botley at about 11pm on Monday.
The dead man was walking in the same direction as the lorry was travelling when the accident happened, police spokesman Tim Wiseman said. The man, whose identity had not been released last night, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene. The lorry driver was treated for shock.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling through the area at that time, and who may have seen a man walking along the carriageway or in the area.
Sgt Dave Milsom, of the Abingdon traffic police unit, said: "While we're still investigating the cause of this tragic collision we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and who may have seen the man nearby, particularly if he was walking in the carriageway."
Anyone with information is asked to call Pc Andrew Matthews on 08458 505505.
No-one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
