Police have apologised after an assault victim waited three days before officers came to see him.
Kevin Walsh was with friends in East Oxford in the early hours when he said a "nutcase" ran up to him and began attacking him.
The incident was reported to police on the day of the attack, Sunday, June 11, and he took the next two days off work, waiting for officers to visit him.
It was Wednesday before they came.
Mr Walsh, 44, of Divinity Road, East Oxford, said: "I was walking down Cowley Road with friends.
"There was a nutcase standing in the middle of the road and he came in our direction, shouting at us.
"This bloke came over and landed a massive punch on me and sent me flying.
"He hit my friend and I got up and he started on me again, sending me into the bicycles locked up outside Tesco.
Mr Walsh said teenagers filmed the attack on their mobile telephones.
He said: "We were right in front of CCTV outside Tesco, there were witnesses and it was an unprovoked attack, but the police didn't seem interested in coming round."
He said: "The first day they kept saying that they were being called out to incidents.
"I don't know how long they keep the CCTV at Tesco and was worried the tapes would be recorded over.
"This man could definitely do this again, he is a danger to the public.
"After the first day waiting for police I was frustrated. I spoke to the police call centre staff who got increasingly rude to me.
"They finally came out after I said I was going to the newspapers."
Mr Walsh said his attacker was between 6ft 3in and 6ft 5in, in his early 20s, with short hair that was a little longer on top.
"I've got a cut nose and elbows, a swollen face and broken ribs.
He said he went to the doctor about his injuries, but did not go to hospital.
Chief Insp Steph Cook, of Oxford police, said police attended Cowley Road at the time of the incident.
Chief Insp Cook said: "While I am happy with the response to the initial incident, there was a delay with visiting Mr Walsh to take a statement, which is something I apologise for.
"We always try to ensure prompt attendance and I am now looking into the reasons behind this delay."
