I am glad that Oxford city councillor John Tanner thinks raising street parking charges in town to £4 an hour during the morning peak will raise revenue for the county council (Oxford Mail, June 8).
Could it not mean that it makes parking in Oxford only for the rich, and the rest of us will have to stay away?
I do agree with him about closing the county councillors' free car park. Why should they drive to town when the rest of us have to go on the bus?
Is it also not time that council employees' perk of having an extra day off every Bank Holiday came to an end?
Every year our council tax goes up, but they still keep this outdated perk which must add thousands to the wage bill.
