What a bunch of cuties - these are the faces that won the hearts of the public in this year's Oxford Mail Baby of the Year competition.

These three are officially Oxford's bonniest babies after thousands of votes poured in from the public over the last two weeks of the competition.

More than 500 hopeful parents swamped the photographers stationed in the city's shopping centres last month, but there are just three lucky mums and dads who have taken the prizes home.

Callum Clare, of London Road in Headington, got a stunning 434 votes from the public and topped the poll by a long margin.

His mother Emma Weller, 24, said: "I am really happy, but it came as a big shock.

"I didn't expect to win because so many kids had entered."

She added: "I am very proud. I just wanted to cry when they told me on the phone. I had all tears in my eyes. I was just really happy."

She said that Callum's father, Richard Clare, who also lives in Headington, had played a big part in helping his son win the contest.

Mr Clare, 24 and a welder at the BMW factory in Cowley, said: "You don't expect, out of all those children, for it to be yours.

"I voted a few times, but not enough to make four hundred odd votes, so we have obviously got a lot more friends and family than we thought we had.

"I've always thought he was good looking but it is just nice to think other people do as well."

In second place, with 341 votes, was Emelia Johnson, who will be celebrating her second birthday in just under a month's time.

She lives in Botley with her mother, 20-year-old Jenny Bunning, and her father, 22-year-old Roy Johnson, who were both very surprised at the number of votes their daughter had got.

It is the second time they have entered Emelia into the competition, although last year she did not get into the top three.

Miss Bunning said: "We told everyone last year, but we didn't really tell anyone this time.

"Someone has spent a lot of money."

Mr Johnson added: "It is totally unexpected. We're very pleased."

Trevorae Lumsden from Blackbird Leys, who is named after his grandfather, came third with 194 votes.

His mother, 28-year-old Karen Cole, said: "I'm over the moon.

"I had goose pimples when I found out, I was so excited.

"I am so proud. I know how it feels to be a proper mum, when your son or daughter really achieves something.

"I'm so chuffed to have him. I'm so lucky to have him."

Although Miss Cole and Trevorae's father, Lloyd Lumsden, had told her family and friends about the competition, she told the Oxford Mail she had not expected to do so well.

She said: "I didn't really tell that many people, so it must have been just the public.

"I was really surprised.

"Me and his dad are really chuffed."
