Flytipping in Northfield Brook is costing Oxford City Council thousands of pounds (Oxford Mail, June 3) The council wants the Environment Agency to install cameras, which the latter says are not cost effective.
The council should not leave it to someone else to deal with it is the council and the taxpayers of Oxford whose taxes it manages who are losing out.
It should employ someone to maintain a surveillance on the spot and challenge and report offenders with a view to prosecution.
I am sure the Oxford Mail could be relied on to ensure the result received publicity, which would then hopefully act as a warning and deterrent to others.
There must be people on the council payroll qualified to do this sort of work and not paid thousands of pounds a week, so it should be cost effective.
If all else fails, why not borrow someone from Control Plus, whose attendants control parking for the county council?
They seem to be very keen and eagle eyed in catching transgressors of the laws.
There may even be the bonus of a possible parking offence being committed while the rubbish is being tipped.
