I read your article about Mohammed Faruq, who cheated Oxfordshire County Council, Oxford City Council and the immigration authorities (Oxford Mail, April 26). How do we allow this type of fraud?
According to your report, he owns 60 houses in Oxford and was being paid £365 per night per room for emergency asylum accommodation. If he rents out all the houses, he would be making thousands of pounds every night.
That means anyone could become a millionaire within a short period. I am surprised that the county and city councils did not investigate this scam earlier. No wonder our council tax goes up every year.
You also report that more than 200 police and immigration officers were involved in the investigation. How much of taxpayers' money has been paid as salaries to these officers?
I am sure there is something wrong with the system we operate. No wonder first-time buyers cannot get into the housing market because of the people like Faruq.
My view is that we must not allow anyone to buy too many houses in East Oxford.
I hope somebody will look into the matter very seriously for the welfare of the people of Oxford.
