In this day and age, it seems that we have to accept the actions of the selfish morons who blatantly deface our beautiful countryside by dumping their rubbish in the hedgerows and streams.
There are those who throw it from car windows thoughtless individuals with no pride.
I am prompted to write about the other more serious breaches of respectability, caused by those who take all types of rubbish from home and deposit it in the most picturesque places.
On Wednesday, April 19, with my wife, I walked a section of the Saltway from Charlbury to Taston.
We were disgusted to see dozens of vehicle tyres, various items of furniture, including a three-piece suite, old cycles, an unwanted child's buggy, other household items, and black plastic sacks, containing goodness knows what.
At the junction of the Saltway with the Taston-Enstone Road, the spoil of someone's drive renovations were dumped on both sides of this lovely track.
On the south-eastern side, there was a pile of broke-up asphalt, while the north-western side was strewn with chunks of broken-up concrete. Unfortunately, access by vehicles to the Saltway is easily available in this area.
It seems that the only way to stop these tippers is to prevent them from gaining access, but this is probably not practicable due to farm vehicles requiring access.
I would have no hesitation reporting offenders. Would they want other people's rubbish dumped outside their homes? Perhaps they wouldn't notice.
