I must agree with John Bullivant (Oxford Mail, April 12). It is most unfair that none of the 48 members of Oxford City Council is a Conservative.
I am not one myself, but I do believe in democracy, which we do not have in English elections. When the system is unjust, victims must take action to circumvent it.
So for the first time in 55 years, I shall vote Conservative in my ward, Headington Hill and Northway, as I understand that two years ago, the Conservatives came within 18 votes of winning a seat here.
If all the Conservatives, plus all the democrats in the affluent parts of the city do the same, we could have some representation of their views on the city council.
Of course, such tactical voting would not be required if we had a fair voting system in the first place. I mean one where the parties' seats in the council were roughly proportional to the votes cast for them such systems are now in use for local elections in Scotland and Wales. So why not in England?
