THE man in charge of Oxfordshire's millennium celebrations is standing down as chief executive of Oxford Inspires.
Robert Hutchison has been at the head of the cultural development agency for three-and-a-half years. But he says that at 65 he wants to concentrate on environmental campaigning and writing.
Mr Hutchison, a former head of Southern Arts, originally came to Oxford to lead the city's bid to become the 2008 European Capital of Culture. The title went to Liverpool. But he was persuaded to stay far beyond a planned five months to head Oxford Inspires in its fundraising and marketing work for arts events.
He said: "I am happy to stay on through the summer. I will be handing over with the Oxfordshire Millennium events in an advanced state of planning. All the funding from the public sector is now in place."
Oxford Inspires is advertising for a new chief executive on a salary of £49,000.
