After a dreary weekend, it was so uplifting to come across the amusing electoral manifestos (Oxford Mail, April 18).
Here we are again, at election time and guess what, ALL parties are promising to put Oxford right if you "vote for us".
I have read this article several times and have the following observations.
Most parties begging for votes are promising to make Oxford cleaner, remove graffiti, tackle flytipping etc.
Now this is the confusing bit. For four years, Blackbird Leys Parish Council has been pressing the powers-that-be to get all these things done.
Needless to say, as it was between election time and seemingly somewhat controversial, all parties chose to give us the silent treatment and deny us any serious support.
But in the true tradition of a very proactive parish council, we continued with our desire to achieve all of the above.
Without fear of contradiction, it has been generously recorded on ITV and Sky News, and vast coverage has been given in the Oxford Mail, often making front page news.
So for all the readers and potential voters who will probably be confused as to whom they should vote for, look no further.
Blackbird Leys Parish Council easily gets the vote for getting the job done, instead of all these stage-managed presentations that are beginning to come through thick and fast.
I will bid a hearty good evening to any one of the party candidates who might happen to bump into me on my daily walkabout around the estate.
In fact, I find it quite peculiar that I haven't seen anyone at all. Perhaps they were in another street.
Bob Avery, Vice-chairman, Blackbird Leys Parish Council, Oxford
