Firoz Kassam almost certainly saved Oxford United from financial ruin.
In the years that followed, while making the financial position more secure, it could be argued that his lack of knowledge on the footballing side contributed to the position where the club faces possible relegation yet again.
Mr Kassam has been man enough to own up to his failings in respect of running a football club and has sold to the Nick Merry team who do know about running a football club hopefully they can broker our survival in League 2 this season.
I hope that Mr Kassam, having shown a considerable return for his investment, and good luck to him, may now show a little more feeling for his former club which he saved by completing the sale of the Kassam Stadium to the new consortium, now and at a reasonable price, which will not deplete the amount of money available for the obviously-needed team building in future.
This will engender an air of stability.
'Business is business' is the saying, but occasionally, it takes an individual to make a gesture to restore people's faith in them.
Come on, Mr Kassam, bite the bullet, just cover your costs and maybe fans would feel that the stadium could still bear your name with some pride.
