Shouldn't the Oxford Mail be supporting the city's largest non-professional theatre company?
This was my first production with the Oxford Theatre Guild and I have been astonished at the level of energy and commitment that guild members have demonstrated since rehearsals began for Lady Windermere's Fan.
The production had packed Playhouse audiences cheering with delight every night an incredible achievement for a diverse group of Oxonians with limited theatrical experience.
Jeremy Smith's tawdry review (Oxford Mail, April 13) didn't even mention the guild, or that the cast and crew were local people who have dedicated a large amount of their spare time to entertain their community for no material gain.
Maybe, next time the Oxford Mail could send a reviewer with a bit more community spirit and, should the guild be presenting another Wilde, someone with a modicum of understanding about the playwright's work.
