A STREET in Jericho, Oxford, will soon play host to a thriving market after being given the go-ahead by councillors.
The market, which will be held at the Walton Street end of Jericho Street, will feature about 12 stalls, most of which will be run by local traders.
Councillors voted in favour of two, two-day "taster" markets, the first to be held on Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20, and the second to be held later in the summer or early autumn.
If successful, they could become a regular feature.
Councillors stressed that priority for stalls at the market should go to locally-sourced food. Stallholders from the Covered Market and Gloucester Green will be invited to take part if there is space.
The Loch Fyne fish restaurant in Walton Street led calls for a Jericho street market.
