SCHOOLS are to receive thousands of pounds to set up partnerships between struggling and excelling schools.
Oxfordshire schools are to receive an extra £377,000 under plans announced this week by Education Secretary Ruth Kelly.
The money will be available over the next two years to promote more collaboration, or federations, between schools that are doing well and schools that are not.
Ms Kelly said: "We want everyone to be involved, from school leaders and governors to teachers and pupils, local authorities, unions and other partners, all sharing their experiences and good practice."
The announcement was news to Oxfordshire County Council.
John Mitchell, spokesman for children, young people and families, said: "At this stage we cannot comment in detail as we have not had time to examine the 'small print' which surrounds this announcement.
"In general terms, though, the announcement of any new resource to support schools is always very welcome. As far as struggling schools are concerned, we are always keen to explore new ways of helping them to meet the challenges they face.
"The idea of using good practice to improve practice elsewhere is of course not new; resources to help promote this model further will be welcome."
