Move over new cars commercials are in the spotlight, led by news that the latest Ford Transit breaks cover this month.

Still by far the most popular van buy in Britain, the omnipresent Tranny as it has become affectionately known has undergone significant changes inside and out.

Van fans can see it in the flesh for the first time at April's Commercial Vehicle (CV) Show at the NEC, Birmingham, from April 25 to 27, where it will undoubtedly be the star of the Blue Oval's stand.

Also making their debuts will be Ford's new Transit Connect van and Ranger pick-up ranges, and the Transit itself is due to hit Britain's roads this summer.

Ford's latest revision of its evergreen Tranny first launched way back in 1965 is the most significant for six years, with fresh exterior styling and new key features such as a dashboard-mounted gearshift, disc brakes all-round, and anti-lock braking as standard.

The new Transit also boasts, a redesigned dash with extra storage space, boosted front-axle capacity, twin batteries, and a completely new range of Euro IV-compliant turbo-diesel engines.

If refinement is high on the shopping list for a carry-all, then take note of the coded locking system with rechargeable waterproof ignition fob, and the option of fitting a Bluetooth kit, cruise control, satellite navigation, and leather trim.

Ford will be offering a massive 60 basic structures and body styles in the new Transit range, and first-in-the-queue customers include British Telecom, which is taking delivery of many examples this year as it updates its 16,000-strong medium van fleet, which is largely Blue Oval-based.

CV Show visitors will also get a preview of the rugged new Ford Ranger pick-up, which goes on sale in September.

With a completely redesigned interior and fresh body styling, the Ranger also gets a new 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that provides greater power and torque.

Ranger sales have more than doubled over the past five years, and the new model is tougher, more refined, and comfortable, with class-leading load capacity, and towing capacity increased to three tonnes.

The latest Ford Transit Connect also gets a more contemporary look, with a freshened front bumper and grille, and detail changes to the interior.

Mitsubishi, meanwhile, is also taking the new L200 pick-up range along to the CV Show, and it has just gone on sale in the UK.

Single and double cab versions of the firm's new-look pick-up will be on display, and dealers will be pleased that demand for the new L200 has already outstripped initial supply, with 1,500 orders being taken before the demonstrators had even reached the showrooms.

For full details of CV Show entry, and exhibitors, go online to www.cvshow.com And, on the subject of websites, Volkswagen has launched an online page dedicated to the new Crafter van, which goes on sale in September.

Go to www.newcrafter.co.uk to view the latest information on specification and other details, but, as with the transit, the Crafter goes public at the CV Show.

Volkswagen claims the van range will set new standards in safety, technology and driver comfort, and be one of the most comprehensive on the market.
