BANBURY United went down 2-1 to an 89th-minute goal from Salisbury substitute Robert Matthews in the Premier Division on Saturday.
Kevin Brock's side now face a near-impossible task to make the play-offs.
After Stuart Bridges went close in the 20th minute, Banbury fell behind when Luke Prince unleashed a fine shot which went in off a post.
Brock replaced the ineffectual George Redknap with Matty Gooderick at half-time, but it made little difference to their attacking options.
However, Banbury did equalise seven minutes from time when Wayne Blossom laid the ball back to Darren Pond, who unleashed a fine 25-yard effort with the outside of his right boot.
The visitors pushed forward looking for a late winner, but were hit on the break as substitute Matthews fired home the winner.
Banbury Utd: Foster, Pond, Kinch (Lazarus 89), Sullivan, Saulsbury, Fuller, Stanbridge, Lamb, Blossom, Redknap (Gooderick 46), Bridges. Subs not used: Jackson, Tricker.
Attendance: 588.
