Hundreds of young people will flock to auditions in Oxford tomorrow for the chance to star in the country's largest youth production.
About 200 people, aged nine to 25, have applied for on-stage or behind-the-scenes roles in a production of Oliver!, the musical version of the Charles Dickens's novel, Oliver Twist, which will be performed at the New Theatre in the summer.
Auditions will be held at the Old Fire Station caf bar, in George Street, tomorrow from 9am, with recalls on Sunday.
Theatre spokesman Joel Barnett said: "We're very pleased with the response we have had so far, but we're still looking for more people to apply. We're expecting about 1,000 to audition.
"It's the largest youth experience production in the country, it's huge. We're flexible about the number of parts there are it could be up to 300.
"It will be terrific fun. It's an exciting show and will offer all involved the chance to develop their skills in acting, or they could discover how to work behind the scenes.
"It's open to such a wide age range, there's no excuse not to come and audition."
Last year, the summer youth production was rags-to-riches story Annie.
Mr Barnett said: "Annie was a huge success. We got very good feedback from those who took part. I think most of them are auditioning again."
With a West End production team and set, the theatre promises that this year's project will be the biggest to date.
Along with Oliver Twist himself, parts on offer include the Artful Dodger, Nancy, Bill Sykes and Fagin.
No previous stage experience is required and as well as acting roles, the theatre needs to recruit backstage help in stage management and wardrobe.
