Sir It appears somewhat disingenuous of the St Margaret's Ward Liberal Democrats to put into their April 2006 newsletter this sentence "And for those of 60 or over, bus travel within the city after 9am is now free!" without the acknowledgment that this concession has lately come about as the result of Parliament passing the Labour Government's Budget of 2005.
What should now be at issue is the need for equality for Oxford city's over-60s. Why cannot we be allowed free travel within our county if not, indeed, within our country?
The Welsh over-60s can now and their Scottish counterparts will be able to from next year, make free bus journeys within their own countries. Why this discrimination against the English? Gordon Brown has recently mumbled something about 2008.
My vote in May and at the next General Election is pledged to that party which undertakes, and quickly so, to treat me equally with all other citizens of the United Kingdom on every issue affecting pensioners.
