A man who launched an unprovoked attack on a neighbour said the victim must have received a stab wound accidentally as the two were grappling together.
Geraldine Alder, 41, and her then boyfriend Richard Tremlett, 33, deny going armed with a knife and iron bar to the Lanighan family's home in Rose Hill, Oxford, to seek revenge after a row.
Yesterday at Oxford Crown Court jurors heard from Jason Merry, the boyfriend of Alder's eldest daughter Charlotte, who has already pleaded guilty to affray outside the Lanighan family home on July 17 .
Merry said he accidentally stabbed Shaun White as he threw him on to a car during a brawl between the two.
Asked by prosecution barrister Kevin Barry why he carried the four-inch butterfly knife with him Merry said he used it to clean his nails.
Alder. who now lives in Barnes Road, Cowley, Oxford, and Tremlett are both accused of affray.
The case continues.
