I read your report of the housing crisis, More social affordable housing needed (Oxford Mail, September 30).
In the near future, affordable housing will be a thing of the past, thanks to housing associations and a Government edict called a target rent, which takes into account the value of the property and the average earnings in the area.
In short, the Government wants to bring social housing rents up to the level of private rents and hard luck on you if you can't afford it.
The greedier, more grasping housing associations will charge rents above the rate of inflation, even when this priority has been achieved.
This is privatisation of social housing by the back door. Glyn Limmer, Roosevelt Road, Long Hanborough
