For three weeks, drivers have been deceived and put at risk from the Headington roundabout in Oxford along the A40 Northern Bypass.

"Essential replacement of gas main" has been promised.

Signs are displayed commanding a 30mph speed limit and telling us of road narrowing, works in progress, etc. All lies!

The signs have been in place for three weeks. The yellow pipes have been laid out but nothing is happening.

Furthermore, the tremendous billboard at the turn-off substantially obstructs the view of joining traffic arriving eastbound on the bypass.

It is difficult enough to interpret the intentions of vehicles already on the roundabout without peering around the back of a great billboard in the way.

Is it any wonder that drivers hold in contempt works signs requesting 30mph speed limits (or even more pathetic, 10mph for chippings, to avoid liability on part of the menders, no doubt) when they are erected in such a casual and meaningless way?

Is this a matter for the police? Or civil action? Mary Meagher, Hugh Allen Crescent, Marston, Oxford
