There have been a number of recent complaints regarding speed cameras. I don't see a problem with them, as they are regulating the speed of vehicles, therefore releasing police manpower to concentrate on more serious crimes.
To say that speed cameras contribute to more accidents is ludicrous.
If a speeding driver slams on his brakes when he spots a camera, it doesn't mean that someone will shunt him from behind, unless of course they are also breaking the law by speeding and tail-gating. No-one is forcing these drivers to speed and I'm sure that the agency which collects the fines is very grateful for the generous contributions voluntarily donated by the law breakers. It's a pity they couldn't give their donations to more worthy causes. George Morton, The Moors, Kidlington
